VP Debates...

Twenty-eight minutes in and I'm just tuning in. I was reading Matt some bedtime stories, which I think is more important. Okay, what did I miss?

9:30PM: If I hear "wrong war..." one more time in these debates, my head just might explode. I understand the point that Bush and Cheney are trying to make, but repeating it over and over is just annoying.

Can I just say that Cheney is doing an excellent job? Same goes for Edwards, who seems to have drunk some "angry juice" tonight. Cheney seems to be bitch-slapping "Junior" around a bit. Yay.

9:36PM: Again, I'm VERY impressed with Cheney. He's being direct, to the point, and he's answering in soft-spoken yet firm way. Where Bush is maybe a little weaker as a speaker, Cheney most definitely makes up for it.

Edwards needs to stop interrupting.

9:39PM: Edwards is discussing Halliburton, it's illegal activities, and it's Iraqi contracts. Cheney brings up a site (can someone give me the link?) to refute what the Democrats are saying regarding Halliburton. He's accusing the Democrats of using it as a smoke-screen to confuse the voters.

9:44PM: Cheney just slammed Edwards on his Senate record! Take that you sexy bitch! "Senator Gone"...one of the worst attendence records in the Senate. In fact, the first time Cheney met Edwards was tonight! I love you Cheney. Okay Edwards...what say ye?

Distortion John? He just said that Cheney distorted his record. Okay. I don't think so. It's a matter of public record John. How exactly is that distorted? Cheney says that his record speaks for itself and it's not very distinguished. Ha!!!! And the Dems begins to rub the bruise.

9:50PM: Edwards is ridiculing the current administration about employment and outsourcing. Cheney is defending the tax cuts and No Child Left Behind. Edwards is talking about millions losing their jobs. How about this: the jobs are out there...go get them!

9:54PM: Cheney points out that Kerry has voted for tax increases 98 times.

Okay, after a short bathroom break...

10:02PM: Discussing trial lawyers *cough* and frivolous lawsuits, and how they've damaged our economy. Trail attorneys get over 50% of the money from lawsuits???? Geezus. I'm obviously in the wrong career.

Edwards says that he is proud of his work and there are too many lawsuits...and him and Kerry have a plan. More responsibility towards the lawyers..."three strikes and you're out" rule for lawyers to keep frivolous lawsuits out of the system.

10:06PM: Does Edwards feel personally attacked when Cheney talks about having a trial lawyer on the ticket? Edwards says that it has nothing to do with what is going our economy and rising health costs. Brings up the "three strikes" rule again. Says that they'll bring down health care costs and stand up to drug companies.

Cheney says lawsuit abuse is a huge problem in this country. The 17% increase in Medicare costs was not from this administration, but from the last one, which Kerry voted for btw.

Edwards is bringing up Halliburton again and the tax loopholes he (Cheney) took advantage of.

Cheney says that they've done a lot to reduce healthcare, especially for those on Medicare who have problems with drug costs.

10:10PM: Aids in America and the rise of it in black women...
Cheney says that the administration is doing everything they possibly can. Wasn't aware of the numbers of black women who are at the most risk of getting the disease.

Edwards is talking about Africa. We're not in Africa John, we're in America. He's talking about genocide in Sudan. Get on topic John. Okay he's talking about people not on health care and their risk of developing AIDS because of it. *scratches head* Ok....

10:14PM: What qualifies Edwards to be VP?
Edwards: The American people want three things from their President and VP: (1) Keep them safe (2) Good judgement (3) Telling the truth....Edwards and Kerry can do that. Has a clear idea of how to keep this country safe. He's doing the "holding a hot bowl" thing with his hands. Very distracting. "A long resume does not equal good judgement." Wants to strengthen military through equipment and training.

Cheney: Important thing in picking VP...mic is muffled...unmuffled now. Hey! John has a coffee cup like I do! Sexy coffee cup. *shakes head* What did I miss? Most important thing: someone who can take over.

Edwards: Bringing up Kerry's Vietnam record. Says that the American people saw the strength of John Kerry at the last debate.

Cheney: Believes Bush would be a better President. He's proven he can keep us safe. He has all of the qualifications and that he's not convinced Kerry does.

10:19PM: How are you different than your opponent?
Cheney: More similarities than there are differences, in terms of modest circumstances and bringing themselves up from a very poor upbringing. Muffled mic again. Your chin Cheney, move it! We can't hear you. The significance of 911 cannot be underestimated...we need to do what we can to keep America safe. Don't wait until we're attacked...we've already been attacked.

Edwards: We were attacked, but not by Suddam. Brings up Kerry...you rule breaker!!! He smiles, apologizes, all is well. Again...bringing up Kerry's name. John, you're a very bad boy. *grabs switch*

10:22PM: Flip-Flopping and it's Theme on the Election. What's wrong with it now and then?

Edwards: We didn't have enough troops and we didn't have a plan for Iraq. The Bush administration should know about flip-flopping and cites things that I can't keep up with. I'll type them in after the debate if I can find a transcript.

Cheney: Consistence is not a word to describe Kerry's stance on Iraq. The key is to get the Iraqi's to take control, not for us to do it for them militarily or otherwise. We can't pull our troops out until that job is done.

Edwards: 800 teachers laid-off in Cleveland alone. Half of Blacks and Hispanics are dropping out of school. Okay...well then don't.

Cheney: We are making progress in our schools and minority students are doing better.

Edwards: We are for accountability and high standards.

10:28PM: An inherited, deeply divided country for the winner...

Cheney: One of the things that the administration is very disappointed in. They want to reach out to Democrats and work together. They are going to keep working to work with Democrats and garner their support. Brings up Zell Miller and his approval of Bush.

Edwards: Have you ever seen America more divided? This is not an accident, this is a direct choice of their (the administration's) decisions.

Cheney: Hard to know where to start. Nice chuckle. Edwards and Kerry were against the Medicare Reform Bill.

Edwards: They were with the drug companies instead of the American people. We will always fight for the American people.

10:33PM: Closing Statements...

Edwards: When he was young, seeing his Dad watching tv, learning Math. Doing what he could do to get a better job. He was and is proud of him. Little John was hopeful. The thumb just came up. The bright lights of America is flickering and the American people see it, but the President and VP do not. You're going to get four more years of the same with the President and VP, but not with Kerry/Edwards. They want to fix the mess in Iraq.

Cheney: Thanks Gwen, but not Edwards. Oh, thank him Dick! They won't be happy until every American has a job. They want Americans to have access to college. There's no such thing as a routine day at the White House. He's worked with four Presidents. The terrorist threat is very real. We need a President who can keep us safe. Bush has been doing just that.

And that's all folks.

Cheney doesn't look like he really wanted to touch Edwards, did he? Can I just say how much I love John's wife? She's so pretty. And the families are saying hello to each other. They all look friendly.

Overall, it was a very nice debate. Honestly, I think I enjoyed this debate more than the first Presidential. I think Cheney is the CLEAR winner in this debate. He handled himself nicely. He looked very in charge and commanding. The error that Edwards made was referring to how well Kerry did at his debate instead of focusing on the questions. I do have to say though, I don't think I would have such a bad taste in my mouth over the Democratic candidates if their ticket was turned around a bit. I've said it from day one...Edwards just seems the better out of the two. If you Democrats were as smart as you claim to be, Kerry would've been debating Cheney tonight.

Fox News has a transcript for those who are interested...and hopefully you all are.

Can someone please tell me why I'm watching McEnroe is on CNBC? I thought Powerline was supposed to be on with "that other blogger who grates my nerves". A need a specific time people.

I'm watching Joe Lockhart on MSNBC and I have one question: what is he smoking? Is he for real? How much kool-aid did he drink before jumping on the camera?

Is anyone else watching MSNBC? Do you hear the crazy guy yelling the background? WTF is going on? Is there a fight or something? The dude is going off! I want to see the crazy screaming guy!
